Rivers of London: Action at a Distance

I’ve had all the graphic novels sitting around for quite a while now and always add as a new one appears but have never read any of them. I think I was waiting for this opportunity to read them in chronological order even though I didn’t really know that was what I was going to do.

This is set in the 50s as a flashback when Nightingale goes to an old friends funeral, Peter goes through the case files and we are shown the case.

An old friend from WWII has joined the police in Cumbria comes to Nightingale for help in tracking down a serial killer who has come down to London.

What I also love is the weaving of this universe into our own, using Nazis to help our scientific progress, how the US was not a partner, Windscale, all of this is fascinating and work really well.

Some secrets from Nightingale’s past get revealed in this story which is far more CSI than fantasy, though the bit that links the beginning of the story and its end is a nice touch.

At it’s core though the story is still a tale of The Folly and how it works and is part of the police service with all that goes with it and it also shows the pragmatic side of Nightingale.

Also really enjoyed the little one page comics at the end, especially Mollies fanfic ship!
