Mariko Tamaki, Nicole Goux, Abrams, (352p) ISBN: 9781419768460. Graphic Novel, read 05/03/25, Ebook ★★★★☆
It’s not just me that has a weakness for gorgeous covers? It can’t be, but this one is a stunner.
This Place Kills Me is a thriller/mystery set in an exclusive all girls school and explores the darker side of people when someone dies after a performance of Romeo and Juliet.
Wonderfully illustrated by Nicole Goux the story explores bullying, outsiders, new pupils, relationships, but most of all trust.
Abby Kita finds herself at the centre of all the intrigue and plotting that is going on, she is a transfer student and this gives her a set of fresh eyes looking at the culture of the school from outside but her past also makes her a target for the rest of the school and part of this is a shit load of homophobia.
We follow the ups and downs of Abby’s relationships with her roomie as they learn to trust each other then fall out, we learn some of the darker history of the school, and in the end what has been happening to the girls there, though not before a lot of this is blamed on Abby.
A cracking read from start to finish, another great graphic novel to add to my collection when it comes out in August.
I received this from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
