The Change Tarot

I was really pleased to be given these after asking for a review set from Hay House. This came along with the Self Source-ery oracle deck which I’ll write about next week (never worked with an oracle deck before).

When I opened the envelop I was immediately struck by the colour palette of The Change Tarot, very cool and subdued. This works well with what seems to be a deck that leans heavily on the Rider-Waite-Smith symbology giving it a definite fin de siecle aesthetic.

The influence of the Rider-Waite-Smith deck is very noticeable though a lot of the symbolism has been minimised to create a sleeker look to the cards which matches the colour scheme really well and doesn’t detract from any readings I’ve done so far.

The box for the cards is very sturdy and should last a long time and the booklet is a really great read digging deeper into psychology than mysticism when interpreting the cards.

I used this deck for my daily draw for a week and found the card quality sturdy as I like to riffle shuffle so need good card stock to not get damaged doing this.,

The ease of use and the clarity of meaning in the cards is a real bonus when doing single card draws on a daily basis, especially since it is so closely based on the Rider-Waite-Smith symbolism.

Overall a nice deck to use with good quality card stock and box, clear and understandable symbolism which is handy for experienced readers and easily learnable for new readers.

Here are the box opening pictures and the cards I’m always going to show when opening new decks; The Fool, The Emperor, The Hanged Man, The Moon, The World, Ace of Cups, Seven of Pentacles, Knight of Wands, and the King of Swords.

My first reading I’ll be asking these questions of the deck:

First reading

First reading

  1. What is the energy of the deck?
  2. What is my initial energy when I interact with this deck?
  3. What might I learn about myself when using this deck?
  4. What kind of growth might this deck inspire in me?
  5. Card of the day

This part is where I draw five cards to get a feel for the deck.

What is the energy of the deck?
This was the Two of Cups, which lets me know that the decks energy is about making connections, trust, and harmony.

What is my initial energy when I interact with this deck?
This was the Knight of Cups, which was probably referring to my love of the design and muted palette, using the Rider-Waite-Smith iconography but having a cooler colour scheme.

What might I learn about myself when using this deck?
This is the Eight of Wands, this deck could let me know more about the energy and need to keep moving forward and the need to do something.

What kind of growth might this deck inspire in me?
This is the Page of Wands, this deck could give me inspiration and help me get toward that growth I’m always after.

Card of the day
This is the Nine of Swords, talks about my feelings of depression, anxiety, and fears and that these are weighing on me at the moment and to not let these worries become self-fulfilling.
